Weight Loss Surgery for You Photo

“I don’t think I even know what hunger is”. A friend recently said this to me at a networking event. What do you think triggered her comment?

There are people who have lost 80, 90 or 100 pounds within 6 months without dieting or exercising. This is not a gimmick, or a pipe dream. This is bariatric surgery.

I did not undergo surgery, but some of my friends have. Read here for one success story.

When I was struggling with weight, bariatric surgery was only offered to morbidly obese people who literally could NOT leave their homes, much less their beds. People who could not stand on their own feet, and needed their significant others to assist them with daily activities.

I never got to that point.

Even if surgery was an option, I never would have been able to afford it! I am a cheapskate, and have found my own means of losing weight without rearranging my insides or breaking the bank.

Today, weight loss surgery is becoming available to just about anyone who can foot the bill and pass some insurance tests. People who feel like they have tried every option under the sun, and have nowhere else to turn.

Here are 3 reasons to avoid bariatric surgery:

  1. You could die under the knife
  2. You can regain all of the weight, and then some
  3. You can’t change your body back

What is the alternative? Next week, I will be sharing motivational stories of women like you who have lost large amounts of weight without surgery. These women are at every age and stage and life, and did not quit!

If you do choose surgery, I recommend you visit the Obesity Action Coalition, which provides great resources.

Do you know someone who had bariatric surgery? Was it a positive or negative experience?
