Does that describe your typical Thanksgiving pretty well? November is a magical time of thankfulness, turkeys, and trees. It is also a magical time of bloating and busting out of your pants. Thank you, tryptophan!

I have celebrated so many amazing All-You-Can-Eat days (AKA Thanksgiving), both before and after I lost 100 pounds. I have celebrated Thanksgiving as someone who refused to eat anything green, as someone who refused to eat any meat, but NEVER someone who refused to eat any bread.

Guess what the common thread was in all of those Thanksgivings of years past? I never felt deprived in a single one. I was able to eat what I chose to eat, in a way that supported either my weight loss or my weight maintenance.

You have probably heard the tired statistic that the average American gains between 5 and 10 pounds over the holiday season. I was one of those hapless people in my childhood. Knowing my overachieving ways, I’m sure gained more like 11-12 pounds. Sigh.

As you look ahead to the family feast, the dinner parties, the cookie parties, and the office potlucks, how do you feel? Are you stressed, concerned or even a little scared?
