Is your Health Plan Constantly Under Construction?

Do you feel like your health goals are always “under construction”? Are they messy, complicated, or even aimless? Or worse yet, do they result in the same body you started off with?

Learn how to construct a health plan and get a detailed road map to success!

At 7 am the other day, my daughter was frightened out of sleep by the jarring sound of pounding concrete. The road outside our house is full of orange cones, strange little road houses, and noisy equipment. There is a joke in Minnesota that we only have two seasons: winter and construction. Forget the beach! We are currently experiencing the season of construction.

My husband jokes that construction workers simply tear up the road so they can just put it all back together, just the way it originally was.

Kathy used to feel that way. Before working with me, she said she felt lost. She was already regularly attending a weight loss support group and checking her progress regularly. However, she was stuck in the same plateau that she had been struggling with for years. Even though she was hesitant to invest further in her health plan, she took the leap into private health coaching.

Here is what she shared,

“I feel it’s one of the most important investments I’ve made in my life. Feeling out of control, not liking what I see in the mirror, depressed, lethargic, hating shopping for myself were some of the things I didn’t like about myself anymore. I feel like I’ve gained some of my life back.”

Whether you are talking about construction of a road or a brand-new you, there is one single element that is required for success. This element will help transform a pile of loose ends into a sound and healthy structure. Without this element, you will end up frustrated and overwhelmed.

All construction jobs require a detailed plan. That’s right. No more shooting in the dark, figuring it out as you go along, or being swept away by the traffic around you.

I have a detailed road map that I share with my coaching clients. It isn’t complex, expensive, or intimidating. In fact, the top tools I needed to start out were a pen and paper. You might not even need those two!

Have you ever heard about the power of visualization? Visualization says that you use your imagination to experience your future success. It is powerful, and very effective.

I am a visual learner, but I am also a strategic person. Visualization can only get you so far if you don’t have a road map.

A road map has three parts:

  1. Drive
  2. Destination
  3. Design

Drive

This is where you currently are. This is your default setting, which might need some examination. If you find yourself in neutral most of the time, you might need to change your direction.

I can’t tell you how many times I connect with women on a complimentary call, and the first things they say are,

I already know how to eat better

or

I eat pretty healthy

or

I’m not sure why I gained weight“.

Does this sound like you?

This is a good indication that you don’t know what gear they are driving in, and might need to shift out of neutral. The only way to do that is to discover your Why. This why determines what health plan most suits your current lifestyle. I explain more in the brief video below.

Destination

This is your end goal. Often, this is the easiest part of the road map to determine. However, make sure that your destination is not out of your reach. For example, trying to drop 60 pounds in 2 months is probably not a realistic health goal. Nor is completely ending emotional eating in just one 7 day.

There are many women who only care about their destination, which can leave you hating your body. I understand how this can be true, especially if you have struggled with weight and diets your whole life. If this describes you, I urge you to read The Secret to Loving Yourself even if you Hate your Body.

Design

This is how you will get to your health goals. This is the most difficult one to figure out for most people. This is what I am passionate about, and why I offer health coaching.

When I first started losing weight, I had no idea where I would end up. I started with the DRIVE, which went well enough that I lost 20 pounds in the first month!

This is not unusual for women who scheduled a Discovery call with me. After discussing what path their previous health history has taken, and what strategies yielded results before, we can identify the most effective ways to create awareness and push past the blocks that led to their default setting.

I was a little wishy-washy on my own Destination. After all, having never dieted before, I had no idea what I was capable of. Sadly, this is often the case with clients I have worked with as well. Almost none of the women I have connected with feel that they are capable or even worthy of achieving their ultimate health goal.

If you are one of those women, here is what I have to say to you:

You are worthy. You are beautiful. You can achieve ANYTHING you set your mind to.

(I promise)

If you would like assistance with designing your own healthy road map, consider the benefits of health coaching. Holistic health coaching is not for everyone, yet it is a fantastic way to get the planning and support you need for a sustainable health plan with real, consistent results.

By the way, health coaching is not just for you if you are stuck or lost. It can also be for you if you need a change and a fierce yet gentle cheerleader who will walk with you on this journey.

By the way, one of my favorite clients did not want to lose weight. Instead, she wanted to focus on improving some of her daily habits. She had an alcohol habit which was sapping her energy and causing her to munch mindlessly on late-night snacks. Within just 3 months of working with me, she was able to quit the booze and started a consistent exercise plan with her daughter.

Here is what she shared,

“If you are searching for reasons that are holding you back, Jen will help you find it. She has a way of getting to the root of the issue. I always felt better and energized after our calls.”
