Before 425 pounds
After 234

Welcome back to September Success! During this month, I feature amazing stories of weight loss successIn our second installment of September Success, we have the amazing Neale Bacon. Neale and I met via Facebook. What immediately grabbed my attention was the name of his website, “Get Healthy with Bacon“. I mean, who doesn’t love bacon??? Neale has lost 191 pounds, 90 of which was in the last 5 years. Also, as a motivational speaker, he shares my passion for telling his story to audiences.

What triggered you to lose weight?

When I stepped on the scale, I heard “clink”. That clink was the needle going all the way around! Seeing the scale max out at 425 pounds scared me. As a father of 2 young children at the time, I didn’t want to die and leave my wife alone with the kids.

How did you lose it?

[bctt tweet=”I’ve discovered that real weight loss does not come from pills, potions, shakes or shortcuts!”]

So, I re-educated myself on food, particularly on portion control and also through exercise. I started losing weight in 2000 but got really serious about it after joining the group TOPS about 5 years ago. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is the short name for TOPS Club, Inc., a nonprofit, noncommercial network of weight-loss support groups and wellness education organization.

TOPS was established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, and has helped millions of people live healthier lives.

Share one of your biggest milestones (i.e., wearing new clothes, being able to finish a 5K, lower cholesterol/blood pressure, etc)

Being able to buy clothes off the rack because I liked them, not just because they fit. Also being taken off my blood pressure meds.

How did you stay motivated when you had a setback?

I learned the hard way that changing my basic eating habits and adding exercise was the only way to sustain weight loss in the long run. I stay motivated by looking at how far I have already come.

Did you know that Neale is also a ventriloquist? Thank you, Neale, for sharing your story!
