To All the Sexy Ladies

Someone give her a sandwich!
Someone give her a sandwich!

While I was watching the American Music Awards, I realized that most of the female icons wore supremely short dresses to show off their amazingly skinny bodies.  Maybe it’s because I write about weight loss, but I kept asking myself “How long did they stop eating to look like that?”

As a child, I yearned to be skinny.  Ironically, most of my closest friends were what I called “stick-thin”.  You know, the kind of thin that makes you wonder if a strong wind would blow them away.  The kind of thin that made me curse my own genetics.  I would watch my friends eat anything they want, and say to myself “It’s not FAIR!”

It wasn’t fair because I could eat salad all day long, and still not be that skinny.  I never liked salad, anyway.  So, I ate like a normal person, and consoled myself with the idea that I was “strong” and “sexy”.  Some clever clothing brands call it “Big and Beautiful”.  Or the dreaded “Pretty Plus“.

Ah, but what if you can be sexy AND skinny?  Divya Gugnani talks about this revolutionary concept in her book, Sexy Women Eat.  Read my full review hereIf you’re looking for a great read that is entertaining and real, check it out!

Are you a sexy woman who eats?

  1. I am right there with you, it is not fair. I love salad, eat it often, but a the end of the day it does not mean anything, I am not skinny and will never be skinny!

    1. Some women just have that kind of body, but eating salad all day is not necessarily the way to get your perfect figure. Glad you like salad, Jody! I’m not a big fan of raw veggies 🙁

    2. Same here! I am petite and used to be able to eat anything I wanted and still looked great. Age changed that. Eating healthy isn’t enough for me. I’m still working at it. Will lose 10 pounds!

  2. I have always been thin-to-average weight and there is nothing I hate more than the word “skinny”. When I picture “skinny”, I think “unhealthy”, “malnourished”, “gaunt”, etc. so when people tell me they want to be skinny, my thought is… “why don’t you work on being healthy instead?” Everyone has a different body, weight is distributed differently. While I think it is exceptionally important to maintain a good weight, I think we should avoid being skinny. Save that for the people on TV 😉

    1. That is exactly right, Carrie! Weight is not distributed the same. Two people at the same weight might look drastically different, and one might be healthy, while the other is not!

  3. All the salad in the world won’t make a person lose weight unless they starve themselves and eat only that.
I encourage people to be mindful in their eating, and get moving more.
Works for so many of my patients

    1. Mindful eating is always a good idea, Jean. I remember there were days when I was done eating without even realizing what I was putting in my mouth!

  4. Even at my most thin, I was never as small as my BFFs. I will say I’m a strong lady, and I’m proud of it! 🙂 And I agree with other commenters that eating well can make a big difference. I think “mindful eating” is a smart way to think of it!

    1. You certainly are a strong lady, Lydia! It’s encouraging to hear from women who don’t need to think “thin”, but want to be healthy and mindful.
