Poor people cannot shed pounds. At least, that is what the studies say.
From access to the healthiest, organic foods to entry to fancy gyms with indoor tennis courts, the poor simply cannot afford to become thin.
This is BS! I know, because I lost 100 pounds as a poor college graduate.
Reality TV sells us the myth that significant weight loss only happens in a controlled environment, with 24-7 access to Jillian Michaels and meals designed by top nutritionists. In fact, a number of potential contestants firmly believe that being a part of a reality weight loss show is their ONLY chance to lose weight.
Stop throwing your money around! Losing weight is not a function of money. It is a function of will.
You don’t need to spend $200 at Whole Foods every week to eat more vegetables. You don’t need to pay $100 per month for a gym membership to become more active. You most certainly don’t need someone to yell at you to improve your habits.
Here are the top three things that won’t make you thin:
1. Diet meals
There is a convenience factor here, but you will never learn how to eat well by eating prepared, packaged foods. These meals are often packed with ingredients that you wouldn’t recognize, much less feed your dog.
2. Gym membership
The right gym can do wonders for you. The wrong gym will just drain your pocketbook. Click here for how to build a home gym without breaking the bank.
3. Supplements
From protein powders to pomegranate extract, the supplement industry is a billion dollar one. Unless you have a medical condition that requires you to supplement, these items are a waste of money. Get these nutrients from food.

Preach! You do not need some pricey formula, hopefully common sense and accessibility to basic nutrition and movement ideas will prevail over time.
Well said, Kia!
All 3 are so true! I can’t believe they say that about poor people. Actually eating right is CHEAPER – you eat less take out, less restaurant junk. You do need the time to make it work, though. Especially if you’re as bad in the kitchen as I am! 🙂
Another reason to be well-prepared, as your kitchen creations may not turn out 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Yes. Because what you really need is balanced diet and regular exercise.
I couldn’t agree more, Andy. It seems that people forget to eat real food to live the good life.
Yes, yes, yes!
Ugh yes, diet meals! Changing the relationship to food, I think, is the key.
